Optical character recognition, usually abbreviated to OCR, enables the computer to identify written or printed characters and is widely used to convert books and documents into electronic files or to publish the text on a website. OCR can be applied to your images, enabling editable text in any format, be it MS Word, Lotus Notes, Adobe or just a text file. This is ideal for documents such as Office Manuals / Information Pages / Books or Patient Records that are in need of updating. The software examines the page and extracts the text from it, storing it in a form that can be edited or processed by normal word processing software.
OCR can also be applied to non-editable text, as supplied on disk, to provide a full text search facility - find a specific number, word or phrase within your data.
The ability to scan the characters accurately, depends on how clear the text is and for that reason, we do not offer this service for handwritten text. Although the process is up to 95% accurate, data scanned with OCR needs careful checking because some letters can be misread.
